Trevor got excited last night when talking to one of his good
friends, learned that there would be no school in Catoosa
County. How was he one of the first to
know? Trevor's friend's dad is one of the Catoosa
County Schools employee that makes the decision on school
closings. I will keep his identity a secret so he
doesn't get inundated with calls from Catoosa County students all
winter!
As a child I can remember staying glued to the TV screen watching
for our school's name to appear on the School Closing list, and for
the most part to no avail. Our school system never
closed! Very few times did we get out becasue of
inclement weather-and when we did it was only in extreme blizzard
conditions! We never even thought about being
dismissed from school becuase of rain!
Living where I do now in Catoosa County-I understand now why
schools dismiss or cancel becuase of coming bad
weather. Student's safety is priority 1.
As a parent of three students, (two who are driving) I am thankful
that there are people making those calls!
It's funny how our perspective changes isn't it? As a
child we watch the school closings for much different reasons than
we do as parents.
Kids want a break-Parents want to make sure their kids are
safe. I don't think safety was ever one of the things
that ran through my mind as a student. Thinking about
safety is an adult thing!
I used to think that supporting Christian Radio was an adult thing
also.
Students listen for the great music and leave the funding to the
adults. I don't think that way anymore.
Last week I was blessed by Cara and Chad Kent and their friend Cora
Williams from Grace Bridge Church of Christ. Cara
had a great idea to raise funds for J103....she headed
up a "fundraising campaign" one Sunday morning in her church
lobby. Equipped with handmade signs and a donation box
these three incredible kids raised close to $300 for the ministry
of J103. It was so cool to meet these awesome kids and
their mom as they came and delivered the donation to their favorite
radio station-J103. Thanks guys-we couldn't reach
people with the gospel of Jesus Christ without you.
