We were sitting at the supper table yesterday afternoon when
Trevor got a text from one of his good friends. His
friend's dad is one of the decision makers in Catoosa County
Schools. The text simply read two words that all kids
long for.......No School!
I had Trevor immediately confirm the news before I called Brett and
Steve at the radio station. It was confirmed-because
of the forcasted school and possible hazardous conditions they
cancelled school.
Now as a partent, I would rather know before bedtime that the kids
didn't have school, so they wouldn't have to get up early in the
morning to find out the news, but "are you kidding
me?" It was warmer this morning than it was all
week! It just started snow flurrying at lunch
time.
When I was a kid, (I know-my kids will tell you in the dark ages,
when we had to walk 5 miles up hill in the snow with no shoes, up
hill both ways), we hardly ever had school closed. In
Jefferson County, (Louisville KY), we were always the last to get
out. All of the other counties around us would get
out, but not us! And on the few times we did-it wasn't
until Wayne Perky on 84 WHAS told us at 5am!
Don't get me wrong. If I was a student, I would be
rejoicing big time for the schools being closed.
I honestly respect the decisions our school systems
make. It proves they have the best interest and safety
of our students at heart when they make those decisions.
But man, is it a long list to read in the mornings!
With the weather forcast the way it looks now-it appears I will
sleeping here at the station tonight to make sure I am ready for
you guys in the morning.
Be careful!
