It was a chilly night in February, close to Valentines Day. I had gotten out of class in the afternoon and drove 5 hours to the Southern Chicago Suburb and picked up my then girlfriend Amy. We turned right around and drove back to Louisville, crossing the river after midnight. Lousiville has a beautiful riverfront area called the Belevedere. It is a huge pavilion complete with fountains, wading pools, landscaping and a sweeping view of the Ohio River and behind the skyscrapers of my home city.

I pulled over and walked Amy up the sidewalk to the view of the river. It was then that I learned the Belevedere was under a reconstruction. There were piles of dirt, excavators, porta-potties, construction fencing all over the place. So much for "picture perfect."

I led Amy to a bench, knelt down, apologized for the not so romantic surroundings, pulled out the engagement ring and asked her to be my wife.

She said yes! That was almost 20 years ago. I have loved being married to Amy. There have been incredible times, and not so incredible times, but through it all I know that the young lady I married 20 years is the perfect companion that God prepared for me.

After sharing that story this morning, we began getting phone calls from others sharing their proposal stories.......,one listener in Cleveland's husband actually proposed at the same place I did!

Share with us here your proposal stories!
