Sunday evening Amy and I sat down and looked over the summer
calendar and our family budget. July 28th we will
celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. We had hoped
to head to the beach with the family, (before Lauren goes off to
college), and I was looking forward to seeing the Space Shuttle
launch. That is one of the things on my "bucket list"
and their are only two more scheduled Space Shuttle launches
left.
We learned that after figuring in the part of Lauren's tuition we
were responsible for, that there would be no money for a
vacation. I will admit that I was disaopointed.
Monday morning, still feeling sorry for myself, I asked all the
listeners to call in with their "realistcic vacations they would go
on if they could afford it."
The first call brought everything in perspective.......a father of
an 11 year old daughter who had been fighting cancer for a couple
of years called in and said he would love to go on a vacation
anywhere with his daughter, because they were calling in Hospice
care for her that day. Wow! Talk about a
sobering call. God convicted me that I had no reason
to complain or sulk because I couldn't spend a few days at a
beach. I am so blessed.
I prayed for that dad,his daughter and their family and encourage
you to do the same. If you do get to take a vacation
with your family this summer-thank God for ALL of your
blessings-not just the beautiful beach or time away.
