We moved Lauren back into her dorm at Bryan College
yesterday. As I was hauling boxes up the flight of
stairs I flashed back to last year where I was doing the same
thing. Last year was so different though.
I can remember taking everything in-being the protective
father-looking for fire exits, extinguishers, security on the
doors, and of course checking the rules for guys on the floor.
I remember Lauren's nervousness over moving in with a roommate she
had never met. She was wondering what it was going to
be like to "live on her own."
I remember sitting down with her and Amy at lunch after one of a
few Wal-mart runs, and praying asking God for his protection and
provision.
He gave both!!! This year I didn't even think about
fire exits, extinguishers, etc. (I did check to make
sure the same "guys on floor" policies were in tact).
Lauren and her roommate have become friends and had such a good
time last year that they are rooming together again.
While we were unloading the boxes and setting up her side of the
room, several of the upper classmen soccer teammates came in and
welcomed Lauren and her roommate back. One of them
asked, "So how is it coming back as Sophomores compared to last
year?"
It was neat to hear Lauren share how peaceful it was this time
around.
In just a few short weeks we will be moving Trevor into his first
college dorm (also at Bryan College). It will be
different, I know. Trevor and his roomate, Jake, have
been friends for years, and.....Trevor is a guy....it's
different. I am not near as nervous.
Now, how to deal with our "only chilld at home-Chipper!"
