ATHENS, Tenn. – For the third year in a row, Tennessee Wesleyan College has teamed up with J103 to award one lucky winner a full scholarship to the college’s Management Excellence evening program. The winner of the $12,000 scholarship is Crystal Hatcher from Benton, Tenn. Hatcher will begin her studies in the fall at TWC’s satellite location at Cleveland State Community College in Cleveland, Tenn. Hatcher won the scholarship based off of her 500-word essay detailing how the scholarship would help her finish her college degree.
“As a working adult with a family and hectic schedule, the opportunity to get a college education once seemed hopeless,” said Hatcher. “A college education to me means a sense of achievement, independence and financial stability, and the ability to set a positive example for my children. Looking forward, I can only hope that my children can see my determination and use it for incentive to believe in themselves and know they can accomplish their goals.”
In addition to Hatcher’s big win, six other finalists were awarded scholarships to the college’s ME program. A $2,000 scholarship award went to Stephanie Barnett from LaFayette, Ga., and Lisa Bates from Athens, Tenn.
Four $1,000 scholarships were awarded and the recipients were Matthew Nevins of Etowah, Tenn., Amberly Melton of Cleveland, Tenn., Lesa McCant of Cleveland, Tenn., and Jeff Bennett of Cleveland, Tenn.
“We are so happy to be able to provide this opportunity to Crystal and the other scholarship recipients in partnership with J103 radio,” said Stefanie West, TWC director of admissions for the ME degree evening program.
“Crystal said it best last Saturday upon hearing the announcement by commenting that this would change her family’s lives. Completing a college education is a positive life-changing experience, and TWC’s ME Program makes it possible for non-traditional students to achieve their goals of a higher education while still balancing life responsibilities of work, family, and school all at the same time.”
