On this morning's show we were talking about fundraisers, and
someone called in to tell us about their most successful
fundraiser-the Pink Flamingos, (it figures that it was a youth
pastor!).
I have had about 5 successful Pink Flamingo fundraisers in my
career as a youth pastor. We never made less than
$2,000 on each one.
Here's how it works: Simply take your church roll and
divide it up into geographical areas with no more than 10 homes on
each list.
Purchase a plastic, tacky pink flamingo lawn statue for each
list. Take a saw and cut a little "door" in the
underside of each bird.
Type up a letter that says basically, "You have been
flamingoed! Quickly relocate this bird to the next
name and address on the enclosed list. Scratch your
name off the list, and the next time you are at "church" drop off a
Flaimingo Relocation Fee in the Flamingo Box located in the
lobby. Place this letter inside a ziploc bag and place
inside the flamingo, and then under the dark of night, sneak into
the first persons yard and stick the flamingo in the ground.
It is a great way for a congregation to have fun together, spend
time as families "sneaking around town" and a great way to raise
donations for mission trips etc.
If you have any other questions-just email me and let me know.
By the way, No flamingos were harmed in the execution of this
fundraiser!
