Back in the Pressbox tonight!

I have to admit, it is going to be a little "different" calling the first Heritage High School Football Game tonight when school doesn't start for another couple of weeks.

I am loving the (return to) new school schedule-starting after Labor Day. I grew up in the day where Summer was from Memorial Day to Labor Day. It gave you a full three months of school.

I don't know why we ever started shortening the summers, (I know it has to do with someone's research stating that kids didn't retain much knowledge over the summer-and that may be true.)

There are many benefits, the way I see it, to a full summer vacation. I can imagine the millions of dollars it saves a school system because they don't have to cool the buildings for a complete month. I know that places that hire high school students for the summer really miss out if they go back to school before the summer starts.

The best thing about summer vacation for me was just chilling out! Sleeping in, going on family vacations, playing outside with my friends-recharging for the school year!

I hope we never go back to the longer school calendar!
