In August of 1937, the Appalachian Trail, or the AT, was founded, and since then it has attracted hikers from all over the United States. 2,910 miles long and stretching over 14 states, the AT brings section hikers, day hikers, and thru hikers from all over to try to conquer this amazing feat. Though the time it takes people to complete this trek can vary from months to years, everyone who hikes the trail receives enormous bragging rights, especially because only about 25% of the people who attempt this hike actually end up finishing. Everyday, these hikers can burn up to 6,000 calories hiking and climbing, as well as possibly getting to see black bears, wild horses, moose, and porcupines. Awarded with a unique nickname and some amazing memories, the AT lives on as one of the most respected feats to accomplish in hiking.
