Since the very beginning, volunteers have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Salvation Army officers to provide help for the poor and downtrodden and those affected by natural disasters. In fact, the name "The Salvation Army" came about in 1878 when William Booth adapted it from a phrase he read in a report that described the organization as a "volunteer army."
The Salvation Army is truly an army of volunteers with opportunities for everyone throughout the year. Our volunteers are the lifeblood of our ministry. The Salvation Army sincerely appreciates and welcomes all volunteers.
